5月2日 Police Cars and that Guilty Feeling! I have just returned home having dropped Andrew off at school. As I was driving round the corner, a police car was coming the other way. As soon as I saw it I felt a stab of guilt and fear - why?!! It then stopped just by my house, and the policeman are now sitting in their car apparently doing nothing. Who are they observing? Why?! Have they found out that I once unwittingly watched a pirate DVD about 5 years ago?! My question for today is.. why do I, and no doubt so many of us, feel guilty when we have absolutely nothing to feel guilty about?! I haven't done anything bad that could mean that the police are after me (unless you count having a bad hair day as a crime against society) so why do I feel so uneasy every time I see the coppers?! Ain't it daft? I get that horrible prickly feeling and go all hot and cold. I wonder what else we all feel guilty about without having absolutely any need to? Just thinking about some of the other stuff I feel guilty about, I realise how silly and pointless it is! Obviously, in some cases, guilt is an appropriate emotion to get us to take action about something (or to ensure we don't do it again!) but most of the time it's just so destructive, and we feel it at the drop of the hat. Just looking back over the last week, I have used that word more often that I care to remember, eg "I feel guilty because I haven't bought any more milk". What a way to bring yourself down! So, my thought for the day is.... let's all try to use and feel the G word a bit less.. and if we do happen to feel it for a good reason, let's make sure that it spurs us on to take some positive action to resolve a situation, and resist the temptation to sit around wallowing in it for years - yes, I have that down to a fine art, too. Oh, and before I forget... the Bible verse for today (yes well I do have to try and be Christian now and again when I'm not on the run from the police lol) is: He touched my lips with the burning coal and said, "This has touched your lips, and now your guilt is gone, and your sins are forgiven."
